Changes in Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) Certification Requirements
Timeline
- From the beginning of 2024, the requirements to renew your DPO Certificate are changing.
- These changes will be introduced gradually over the next five years!!!
New Requirements for Renewing a DPO Certificate
- If you have 150 days of seatime or equivalent, and are renewing your DPO certificate, you will need to demonstrate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as well as experience.
- To revalidate your DPO Certificate, you will need to:
- complete one year of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- complete two years of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- complete three years of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- complete four years of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- complete five years of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- If you have between 30 and 150 days of seatime, you must complete the NI DP Refresher course, including the NI Revalidation online examination.
- If you have less than 30 days of seatime, you must complete the NI DP Revalidation Course, including the NI Revalidation online examination.
Automatic Extension
- If you do not have all the requirements in place to renew your DPO certificate, don’t worry.
- You will be granted an automatic 12-month extension to your existing certificate to complete the CPD requirements.
Meeting the Requirements
There are several ways to meet the new requirements:
- Option 1: Complete 2024 of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- Option 2: Complete 2025 of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- Option 3: Complete 2026 of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- Option 4: Complete 2027 of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
- Option 5: Complete 2028 of an NI-approved CPD programme AND take the NI Revalidation online examination.
Note: If you have between 30 and 150 days of seatime, you must complete the NI DP Refresher Course, including the NI Revalidation online examination. If you have less than 30 days of seatime, you must complete the NI DP Revalidation Course, including the NI Revalidation online examination.
Remember, these changes are being implemented to ensure that DPOs stay up-to-date with the evolving standards in the dynamic positioning industry.
